back-up rollers

Flattening is a process performed in hot or cold environment. It is done on raw parts to get a flat surface. The hot working is done by forging with a hammer shaped tool; the cold working is done by passing between sets in rolling mills. In both cases, the flat surface is made by a light yelding of material.

The roller levelling is made on sheet, strip or pieces already sheared.

It is a simple and quick method for obtaining sheet, strip or flat parts with high precision and without residual stress.

Sheet, strip or pieces are subjected to an alternating bending at the top and bottom. The bending force is higher at the entrance to the flattening, then decreases towards the exit.

To obtain permanent effects, the external fibers need to be subjected to stresses beyond the elastic limit. The external fibers need to be subject to plastic deformation.

The flattening of the coils is done with the plant known as the “line cutting”.

The structure is composed of several machines placed in line:

  • reel;
  • first yelding rollers;
  • second yelding rollers;
  • flying share;
  • parking rollers.

The reel’s area is where the coils are placed and where the flattening starts. At the processing start, the coil is mounted on the reels and begins its annealing to the first line of rollers. The second line of rollers makes the real flattening on the material giving it a perfect flatness. The subsequent flying shear machine makes the cut in the desired length. The final roller allows the pack to be formed, strapped (tied with smal metal band), and moved to the shipping area.

Back-up rollers:

The back-up rollers are track rollers with the outer ring made of hardened steel with a high thickness. The outer diameter is usually between 20 and 300 mm while the width of working surface is usually between 25 and 200 mm. To avoid high levels of load at the ends of the working surface we can provide specific optimized profiles guaranteeing high quality standards.

Back-up rollers are available with rolling elements (balls, cylindrical rollers, needle rollers, etc. ..) and sealing systems (fey, labyrinth, selas, etc..) Suitable for the most varied operating conditions (flattening for black sheet metal, flattening for stainless steel sheet, etc..).

Generally the back-up rollers are mounted in line and linked together by massive shaft.

It’s available the variant with integrated shaft. This execution simplifies the assembly operation and consequently reduces the time and cost of maintenance.

To conclude the range of our offer, we can provide special back-up rollers derived from customer drawings.
